About Sibyl

I am a theater artist whose practice combines writing, directing, teaching and community organizing. I have strong feelings about caffeinated tea.

My artistic universe is shaped by humor, queer aesthetics and scrappy, insurrectionist politics. If you come to my show, rehearsal room or classroom, you will be met by radical hospitality, a bent, multi-disciplinary take on theater and a commitment to foregrounding marginalized voices.

Much of my creative work is made through community collaboration. Instead of “finished-before-the-first-production-meeting” plays, I prefer a porous writing process where I develop scripts in tandem with my co-conspirators, whether they are designers, dancers, community members or a physical space.

My teaching focuses on empowering writers to find their unique voices and approaching art as activism. I have taught at high schools and colleges, but I also work to create new, inclusive spaces for learning and performing. For the California Alliance for Arts Education, I launched the Student Voices Campaign, a platform that gives students a way to communicate creatively with their local school board. For the Center Theatre Group, I mentored the first Student Ambassadors Advocacy Team, which taught them about California education policy and strategic advocacy to support a group project that took workshops to their peers at a series of student events.

My plays have been presented nationally and internationally. Selected credits include: Zoophilic Follies (REDCAT), Saint Cuthbert of Lindisfarne (Yamchoa International Theatre Festival, Thailand), Ten Seconds in the Water (East LA Rep), Yes is a long time (Bootleg Theater), Alice and the Majestic Guts (Walt Disney Concert Hall), What if would you (National tour), Full Tilt Float (REDCAT) and Stall (Celebration Theatre).
